Description
A halal-friendly twist on the classic Philly cheesesteak, using tender ground beef, sautéed onions, and melty provolone for a rich, handheld meal. Perfectly simple and juicy with no alcohol or pork involved.
Ingredients
Ground Beef 1 lb
White Onions 3−4 large sliced thinly
Provolone Cheese 4 oz shredded or thinly sliced
French Rolls 8−12
Vegetable Oil 2 tbsp (canola or grapeseed)
Salt 1 tsp
Black Pepper ½ tsp (freshly ground)
Instructions
Chop French rolls in half and butter both sides
Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high until shimmering
Add ground beef, breaking apart with a wooden spoon, and sauté 5−7 minutes until browned; season with salt and pepper
Transfer beef to a paper towel-lined plate and retain rendered fat or add 1 tbsp oil if needed
Add onions to the skillet, reduce heat to medium-low, and cook 8−12 minutes until translucent
Return browned beef to the skillet and mix with onions
Sprinkle provolone cheese until it begins to melt
Place bottom halves of the rolls on the skillet briefly to warm
Fill each roll with the beef and onion mixture
Cover sandwiches to melt cheese further
Notes
Use lean ground beef to minimize grease
Choose thick, crusty rolls for structural integrity
Provolone block can be shredded at home for a fresher option
Store leftover meat in an airtight container for up to 3 days
